Spiral galaxy ESO 510-13 is bent out of shape, a common feature in many spirals, including our own Milky Way. A galaxy's disk is a loose conglomeration of billions of stars and gas, orbiting a galactic center. A flat disk is thought to form from sticky collisions of gas clouds early in the galaxy's formation. The causes of these warps are still being studied.
