The Seagull Nebula

NASA APOD · Harel Boren
COSMIC MESSAGE

This broad expanse of glowing gas and dust is known as the Seagull Nebula, due to its bird-like shape. It covers a 1.6-degree swath across the plane of the Milky Way, near Sirius. The region includes NGC 2327, a compact, dusty emission region with an embedded massive star that forms the bird's head.
