COSMIC MESSAGE
NGC 1579, also called the Trifid of the North, lies in the constellation Perseus. About 2,100 light-years away, it is three light-years across. Like the Trifid Nebula, it shows contrasting blue and red colors, with dark dust lanes in its central regions. The blue is from dust reflecting starlight, but the reddish glow is not emission from hydrogen.
