NGC 2683: Edge-On Spiral Galaxy

COSMIC MESSAGE

This elegant spiral galaxy, NGC 2683, is about 16 million light-years away in the constellation Lynx. It is similar to our Milky Way and is seen nearly edge-on. The bright core is made of light from old, yellowish stars. Their starlight silhouettes the dust lanes along the spiral arms, where young blue star clusters are visible.
