The Surface of Venus from Venera 14
NASA APOD · Donald Mitchell
COSMIC MESSAGE
This is the view from Venera 14, a robotic Soviet lander that parachuted through Venus' thick atmosphere in March 1982. It saw a desolate landscape of flat rocks, empty terrain, and a featureless sky near Venus' equator. You can see the spacecraft's penetrometer on the lower left and part of an ejected lens cap on the right.
