Thackeray's Globules
NASA APOD · T. Rector
COSMIC MESSAGE
These are opaque clouds of interstellar dust and gas, much larger than anything on Earth. Known as Thackeray's Globules, they are found in IC 2944, a star-forming region in Centaurus about 5,900 light-years away. First observed by A. D. Thackeray in 1950, these large clouds are dense enough to potentially form new stars.
