NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Many spiral galaxies, including our own, have a bar of stars across their center. This Hubble Space Telescope image captures NGC 1672, a barred spiral galaxy about sixty million light-years away. You can see dark dust lanes, bright blue star clusters, and red hydrogen gas clouds. At its heart is a bright, active nucleus, likely housing a supermassive black hole.
