Messier 5 (M5) is a globular star cluster containing over 100,000 stars, all bound by gravity. It spans about 165 light-years in diameter and lies 25,000 light-years from Earth. Charles Messier first cataloged it in the 18th century, describing it as a fuzzy, round nebula.
