RBSP Night Launch

NASA APOD · Mike Killian
COSMIC MESSAGE

An Atlas V rocket launches from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, tracing an arc across the early morning sky. Inside, NASA's twin Radiation Belt Storm Probes, or RBSP, are on their way to Earth's Van Allen radiation belts. This composite image captures the rocket's ascent, with its reflection visible in the Turn Basin. The probes will study how the radiation belts react to solar activity.
