A Dark Earth with a Red Sprite

This image from the International Space Station shows a rare phenomenon: a red sprite. Sprites are fleeting electrical discharges high above thunderclouds, once thought to be mythical. This faint red sprite is visible just over a bright area of lightning, with ISS solar panels and a robotic arm also in view.
