NASA APOD · Glittering Lights
COSMIC MESSAGE

IC 4628, also known as the Prawn Nebula, is an emission nebula in Scorpius, about 6,000 light-years away. Hot, massive stars radiate the nebula with ultraviolet light, causing its atoms to glow. This process, where electrons are stripped and then recombine with atoms, produces the visible red light, primarily from hydrogen. The region shown is about 250 light-years across.
