NASA APOD · Chris Willocks
COSMIC MESSAGE

Ferdinand Magellan's crew studied the southern sky during their voyage. They named two fuzzy, cloud-like objects the Clouds of Magellan. These are now known to be satellite galaxies of our Milky Way. The Large Magellanic Cloud, shown here, is about 160,000 light-years away in the constellation Dorado.
