An aurora glows over northern lands. These colorful lights happen when charged particles from the sun hit Earth's atmosphere. The equinox, when day and night are roughly equal, brings an increase in these geomagnetic storms, making it a good time for aurora hunters. This image was captured with a camera on September 20.
