Galaxies, Stars, and Dust

This deep-sky image toward Pegasus reveals a mix of cosmic objects. The bright, spiky stars are within our own Milky Way galaxy, their diffraction spikes a common effect of telescope optics. Faint clouds of interstellar dust, reflecting the combined starlight of the Milky Way, are also visible. These high-latitude cirrus clouds lie above the galactic plane.
