COSMIC MESSAGE

The Cocoon Nebula, or IC 5146, is a star-forming region in Cygnus, about 4,000 light-years away. It is nearly 15 light-years wide and stands out in red, glowing hydrogen gas. Young, hot stars excite this gas, and blue, dust-reflected starlight marks its edges, making it a region in the sky.
