On April 11, 2013, the Sun produced its strongest solar flare of the year, an M6.5 class flare from active region AR 11719. This false-color extreme ultraviolet image from the Solar Dynamics Observatory captured the event. A coronal mass ejection accompanied the flare, heading toward Earth.
