SN 1006 is the remnant of the brightest supernova ever recorded, seen in 1006 AD across the globe. This image, taken with the Chandra X-ray Observatory, shows the expanding debris cloud. It sits in the constellation Lupus, about 7,200 light-years away. The supernova was a Type Ia, resulting from a white dwarf star exploding.
