NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

GRB 130427A was a powerful gamma-ray burst, a tremendous explosion in a distant galaxy. First detected by the Fermi and Swift satellites, its coordinates were quickly shared with ground-based telescopes. The ISON telescope in New Mexico observed its visible light. Such bursts are thought to be linked to the collapse of massive stars.
