NGC 6302, known as the Butterfly Nebula, spans over 3 light-years. Its central star is dying, with an estimated surface temperature of 250,000 degrees Celsius. This star, exceptionally hot and bright in ultraviolet light, is hidden from our direct view by a dense torus of dust. The Hubble Space Telescope captured this sharp, colorful image of the nebula.
