Sunspot group AR1748 produced the first four X-class solar flares of 2013 in less than 48 hours. These extreme ultraviolet images from the Solar Dynamics Observatory show the flashes. X-class flares are the most powerful and often come with coronal mass ejections, massive clouds of plasma.
