Delphinid Meteor Mystery

NASA APOD · Yuri Beletsky
COSMIC MESSAGE

Astronomers hoped to see an outburst from the gamma Delphinid meteor shower as Earth swept through an unknown comet's dust trail. This image captured meteor streaks and the Milky Way above Las Campanas Observatory. A brief but strong outburst was reported in 1930, but no significant activity was observed during this event. The shower is named for its radiant point in the constellation Delphinus.
