COSMIC MESSAGE

The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31, is the closest major galaxy to our Milky Way. It contains hundreds of billions of stars, giving it a diffuse glow. The distinct stars surrounding Andromeda in the image are actually foreground stars within our own galaxy. Andromeda and the Milky Way dominate our Local Group of galaxies.
