The Eagle Nebula glows with many colors, powered by energetic light from massive young stars. These stars sculpt pillars of dark dust, effectively boiling away gas from their birth clouds. This composite image combines three colors of glowing gas to reveal the intricate structures. Many of these stars will explode after several million years, returning their elements to space.
