Moon Over Andromeda

NASA APOD · Adam Block
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31, is the closest large spiral galaxy to our own Milky Way, about 2.5 million light-years away. While visible to the unaided eye as a faint patch, its full extent in the sky is not often appreciated. This composite image compares Andromeda's angular size to that of the Moon, showing how large it appears.
