Tropic of Cancer

NASA APOD · Rogelio Bernal Andreo
COSMIC MESSAGE

This monument in Taiwan marks the Tropic of Cancer, a special circle of latitude at about 23.5 degrees north. At this latitude, the Sun can pass directly overhead once a year during the northern hemisphere's summer solstice. The Tropic of Cancer's latitude corresponds to the tilt of Earth's axis relative to its orbit around the Sun.
