COSMIC MESSAGE
This long ribbon of gas, called the Magellanic Stream, stretches across the sky. Discovered in the 1970s at radio wavelengths, it's shown here in pinkish hues. The stream originates from the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, dwarf satellite galaxies of our Milky Way. Data from Hubble's Cosmic Origins Spectrograph helped confirm its source.
