This image of Earth's Moon was captured by the Soviet Union's Zond 8 spacecraft in October 1970. The unfamiliar perspective highlights Mare Orientale, a large impact basin near the top of the image. This ancient collision left a dark-centered circular feature surrounded by lighter, textured highlands.
