Last week, comet dust rained down on Earth, creating the annual Perseid meteor shower. This picture is a composite of many images taken from the same location during the shower's peak. The meteors almost entirely evaporate high in Earth's atmosphere. This view, from near Jiuquan City, China, captures the essence of the Perseid rain.
