Galaxy Cluster Abell 1689 Deflects Light

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Abell 1689 is one of the most massive objects in the visible universe. This Hubble image shows how its immense gravity warps space, bending light from galaxies behind it. This gravitational lensing creates multiple, curved images of background galaxies. Most of the cluster's mass is dark matter, not visible gas and stars.
