Naked Eye Nova Centauri 2013

NASA APOD · Yuri Beletsky
COSMIC MESSAGE

This night sky image, taken near Las Campanas Observatory in Chile, shows the newly visible Nova Centauri 2013. It appeared next to Alpha and Beta Centauri, which are already bright beacons in the southern sky. Nova hunter John Seach from Australia first spotted it on December 2 as it brightened, becoming visible to the naked eye through a greenish airglow.
