Apogee's Full Moon

NASA APOD · Rick Baldridge
COSMIC MESSAGE

This Full Moon, seen rising over Lick Observatory, is the smallest full moon of 2014. It reached its full phase within two hours of apogee, its most distant point from Earth in its elliptical orbit. The difference in apparent size between the largest and smallest full moons is subtle to the eye.
