The Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey-III (SDSS-III) has measured recurring density enhancements in galaxy densities. These ripples, called baryon acoustic oscillations, extend up to six billion light years away. They help us understand the universe's gravitational history and composition.
