COSMIC MESSAGE
This long-exposure image captures an intense red airglow over Yunnan Province in southwest China. Airglow is a faint emission of light by a planet's atmosphere, similar to aurora but occurring globally. It is caused by chemical reactions in the upper atmosphere, energized by the Sun's ultraviolet radiation. This phenomenon is usually too faint to be seen with the unaided eye.
