An ALMA Telescope Array Time-Lapse
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Atacama Large Millimeter Array, or ALMA, consists of 66 dishes in the high-altitude Atacama Desert in Northern Chile. ALMA observes the skies in high-frequency radio light, which is usually absorbed by humid air. The thin atmosphere and low humidity above ALMA allow it to detect this light. It is the most expensive and complex ground-based astronomy project ever.
