Southern Annular Eclipse
NASA APOD · MWV Observatory
COSMIC MESSAGE
On April 29, the shadow of the New Moon touched Earth, creating an annular solar eclipse. If you were in Antarctica, near 79 degrees South latitude and 131 degrees East longitude, you could have seen the Sun just above the horizon. The Moon was near its apogee, the most distant point in its elliptical orbit, making its apparent size smaller than the Sun's.
