M16, a young star cluster, is surrounded by the Eagle Nebula, a cloud of dust and glowing gas. This image shows cosmic structures, including the famous Pillars of Creation. These dense, dusty columns are light-years long and are contracting to form new stars. Energetic radiation from the cluster's stars shapes these pillars.
