Shadows and Plumes Across Enceladus
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Saturn's moon Enceladus is a tiny, ice-covered world, but it has geysers of water vapor and ice particles erupting from its south pole. The Cassini spacecraft, which orbited Saturn for 13 years, discovered these plumes in 2005. Scientists believe the water comes from a subsurface ocean, heated by tidal forces from Saturn. The plumes are a source of material for Saturn's E-ring.
