M13: The Great Globular Cluster in Hercules

NASA APOD · Joan Josep Isach Cogollos
COSMIC MESSAGE

M13, the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules, is a ball of hundreds of thousands of stars, all held together by gravity. It is 25,000 light-years from us, and so dense that stars can be less than a tenth of a light-year apart. Edmond Halley noted it as a 'little Patch' in 1716, but with a telescope, it is a spectacular sight.
