Shoreline of the Universe

The Milky Way stretches across the night sky, a river of stars above the dunes of Hatteras Island. Dark rifts of interstellar dust look like waves breaking on a cosmic shore. This monochrome image, captured with a digital camera, evokes the early days of astrophotography. The bright stars of Sagittarius and Scorpius are visible near the center of the frame.
