COSMIC MESSAGE
Comet C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) shows an exquisitely detailed ion tail, made of gas energized by ultraviolet light from the Sun. The solar wind pushes this gas outward, and the Sun's complex magnetic field sculpts the solar wind. This interaction causes the structure in Comet Lovejoy's tail.
