Four NASA suborbital sounding rockets launched from the Poker Flat Research Range in Alaska on January 26. This time-lapse composite image follows all four launches, which explored winter's aurora-filled skies. During the exposures, stars trailed around the North Celestial Pole. Lidar, beams of pulsed green lasers, also left traces through the scene.
