NGC 602 in the Flying Lizard Nebula

NASA APOD · Don Goldman
COSMIC MESSAGE

Near the outskirts of the Small Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy about 200,000 light-years away, lies the young star cluster NGC 602. The cluster is only 5 million years old and is surrounded by natal gas and dust. NGC 602 is about 200 light-years in diameter, and its glowing interior ridges and swept-back shapes suggest that energetic radiation and shock waves from its massive young stars are shaping the surrounding nebula.
