COSMIC MESSAGE
The colorful rings around the Moon are called a corona. This effect occurs when the Moon is viewed through thin clouds. The rings are created by the quantum mechanical diffraction of light around individual, similarly-sized water droplets in the cloud. Since different colors of light have different wavelengths, each color diffracts differently, creating the distinct colored rings.
