COSMIC MESSAGE
Messier 5, or M5, is a globular star cluster containing 100,000 or more stars. It is bound by gravity and packed into a region about 165 light-years across. M5 lies some 25,000 light-years away in the constellation Serpens. Charles Messier described it as a fuzzy, round nebula in the 18th century, but the Hubble Space Telescope reveals its individual stars.
