COSMIC MESSAGE

The Elephant's Trunk Nebula, part of the IC 1396 complex in Cepheus, is a winding structure of gas and dust. This cosmic trunk is over 20 light-years long. The image, recorded through narrow-band filters, highlights the light from ionized hydrogen, sulfur, and oxygen atoms. It shows bright, swept-back ridges that outline pockets of cooler gas and dust.
