COSMIC MESSAGE
During a lunar eclipse, the full moon turns red as it passes through Earth's shadow. In this image, the moon is on the lower right, with a faint glow called the gegenschein rising from the central horizon. The gegenschein is sunlight backscattered by dust particles orbiting the Sun. This event offers a unique view of both lunar and solar system phenomena.
