Stars and Globules in the Running Chicken Nebula
NASA APOD · Martin Pugh
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Running Chicken Nebula, also known as IC 2944, is a region of hot gas and dust where stars are forming. Toward the top of the image are small, dark molecular clouds called Thackeray's Globules. These 'eggs' are dense pockets of cosmic dust and gas, potential sites for new stars to condense under gravity. The nebula itself lies in the constellation Centaurus.
