The giant star-forming region NGC 6188 sits 4,000 light-years away in the southern constellation Ara. Young, massive stars of the Ara OB1 association formed only a few million years ago. Their stellar winds and ultraviolet radiation sculpt the dark shapes and power the nebular glow.
