Auroras and the Magnetosphere of Jupiter

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Jupiter has auroras, much like Earth. When a gust of charged particles from the Sun impacts Jupiter's magnetic field, it compresses and funnels these particles towards the poles. There, electrons excite atmospheric gases, emitting the auroral light shown in this illustration. It is a process we see on many planets with strong magnetic fields.
