Clouds of the Carina Nebula
NASA APOD · John Ebersole
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Carina Nebula is a region of gas and dust about 7,500 light-years from Earth. This image, captured from Siding Spring Observatory, shows the heart of the nebula. The dark shapes are molecular clouds, dense knots of gas and dust that block light from behind. Despite their opaque appearance, these clouds are much less dense than Earth's atmosphere.
